Conoco is a major American brand of gasoline and service stations. Originally founded in 1875 in Ogden, Utah as Conoco, Inc. (Continental Oil and Transportation Company), they partnered with Standard Oil and Marland Oil Company over the years. In 2002, the company was merged with Phillips Petroleum to form ConocoPhillips. Almost a decade later, in May 2012, the merged company spun off its refining, chemical, and retail assets (downstream operations) into a new company bearing the Phillips name- Phillips 66. Along with sister brands Phillips 66, and 76, Conoco can be found in all 48 states where the Phillips 66 Company operates, though it’s rare to see the Conoco brand in California and Oregon where the 76 brand predominates. The Conoco brand is used in approximately 1,755 locations throughout the United States.
Phillips 66 is a diversified energy company with Midstream, Chemicals, Refining, and Marketing & Specialties operating segments. The company was formed in 2011 due to the restructuring of ConocoPhillips which separated its downstream businesses into an independent, publicly traded company named Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX). Phillips 66 Partners and Phillips 66 Company are wholly owned subsidiaries. Phillips 66 operates approximately 6,300 gas and service stations under Phillips 66, 76, and Conoco. In 2022, they employed around 14,000 people worldwide and earned a revenue of nearly $147.39B. Their March 2024 market cap was $66.93B. As of December 2023, they had $75.5B in total assets. Phillips 66 has an investment grade S&P rating of BBB+ and a long-term Moody’s credit rating of A3. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
