Founded in July 1986, they have become the largest mattress specialty retailer in the U.S. Over the years, Mattress Firm has acquired several mattress chains, including Mattress Pro (2007), Sleep Train (2014), Mattress Barn (2014), Sleepy’s (2015) and Sleep America (2015). In 2016, Mattress Firm was acquired by Steinhoff International (SNH: JSE) for $3.8B. In May 2023, Tempur Sealy International, Inc (NYSE: TPX) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Mattress Firm Group, Inc. for $4B. Mattress Firm, Inc. has an S&P credit rating of B+ and a long-term Moody’s rating of B1. As of June 2022, the company operates approximately 2390 locations in all 50 U.S. states and employs over 8,000 people.
